Dr. Myron Scholes ‘62, Nobel Laureate to give a free lecture on June 2.

Join the McMaster Alumni Association in welcoming our Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences and co-originator of the Black-Scholes options pricing model, Dr. Myron Scholes ‘62 for an interesting and timely lecture on the global macro economy. All alumni are encouraged to attend and to participate in a brief meeting after the lecture where a revised constitution will be presented.

NOTE:  Lecture is open to both McMaster Alumni and Non-Alumni.

Saturday, June 2, 2012, McMaster University, Council Chambers, Gilmour Hall Room 111 2:00 p.m. This event is followed by the President’s Dessert Party as part of our annual Alumni Weekend festivities. While the lecture is free, registration is required.

We are excited to bring you an event focused on The Hospitality Industry in Hamilton. On Monday June 18, 2012 YEP Hamilton is lucky to have two prominent executives of the Hospitality Industry chat with us about bringing tourism and business to Hamilton, managing a company with many moving parts and how to provide amazing and consistent customer service to your clientele.

We are excited to have the following executives take the time to chat with us on Monday June 18, 2012:

1) P.J. Mercanti

President, Carmens
P.J. Mercanti is the President of Carmen’s, a name synonymous in Southern Ontario with celebrity events, weddings, catering and dinner theatre. Last year PJ and his family opened the new Best Western Premier C Hotel by Carmen’s and a new Italian restaurant, Baci Ristorante. A University of Notre Dame business graduate, PJ worked for ESPN before venturing back to Hamilton and he has kept himself busy ever since. He is the founder of GenNext United Way and is involved with many community organizations such as The Charity of Hope, The Good Shepherd, and Hamilton Community Foundation. PJ is also a label executive of Rat Pack Records, a venture he co-founded with Canadian Idol winner Brian Melo. Over the past few years Carmen’s has hosted fundraising events featuring Hollywood Legends Michael Douglas, Al Pacino, and Sylvester Stallone, Former U.S. Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin and the Grammy-winning rock band Chicago.

2) Joe Mercanti

·  7:00pm – 7:30pm – networking

·   7:30pm – 8:00pm – Intro + Learn about the each professional’s respective job and background.  What factors have contributed to their success?  What is Hamilton doing Right? What is Hamilton not doing now, what does it have to do to realize its potential?

·  8:00pm – 9:00pm – Questions from young professionals to the Hospitality Experts. Q and A and open conversation

In order to maintain a conversational atmosphere, we only have 25 spots available. This exciting breakfast will feature the distinguished speaker and journalist, Roger Gillespie. Roger is the Executive Producer for CBC Hamilton and will be speaking about young professionals leading change in modern media.

The HHCA’s Young Leaders will be hosting a brand new Golf Classic on Thursday, June 14th, 2012 at Clublink’s Glendale Golf and Country Club. Due to the overwhelming success and growth of the former YLG Golf Refresher and the Past Presidents Golf Tournament, the YLG have focused on offering a new tournament to our members.

The YLG is offering an early bird savings for this tournament. The fee for this tournament is the following.

Singles – $175
Twosomes – $$330 ($350 after May 14th)
Foursomes – $660 ($700 after May 14th)

Your fee will include a BBQ lunch, Practice Range, 18-hole round of Golf with Carts and a fabulous dinner by Clublink. A shot gun start is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Sponsorship opportunities will be available and this year we are giving sponsors the chance to reserve your sponsorship with the YLG Golf Classic and it will secure your sponsorship for the HHCA’s Golf Day in August!
