The HIVEX Conference subcommittee is in charge of planning and executing the largest Young Professional, Entrepreneur, and Leader Conference in the Greater Horseshoe area. The annual full day event, which takes place in October, allows attendees to participate in workshops, listen to engaging keynotes from experts in various industries, and network with like-minded YPs and numerous professionals in the city. The subcommittee is in charge contacting speakers and presenters, marketing the conference, looking at logistics and are in charge of day of events.Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: each member will be responsible for attending weekly meetings starting in February, working closely with the PR Subcommittee to generate articles and blog posts related to HIVEX, and connect with various companies/organizations/groups to garner sponsorship and swag bag items. This committee runs from February to November.
Co-chairs: Meg Galachiuk and Corey Helie-Masters
Meg spent her formative years in Fort McMurray, Alberta. She obtained a Bachelor degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Waterloo, followed by a Masters of Architecture from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.
Meg has been a resident of Hamilton for the past 4 years during which time she has developed a passion for promoting the potential of the community. She is a founding member of the Young Architects of Hamilton and has been representing them on the Hamilton HIVE board for the past 2 years. As a member of last year’s HIVEX conference planning committee, Meg is excited to take on a more active role as Co-Chair and is looking forward to another great event.
Corey moved to Hamilton to attend McMaster University six years ago and has been in love with the city ever since. After coordinating a five-day conference with over 1000 students at McMaster, he’s incredibly excited to go to work on developing the best experience for young professionals in Hamilton as Co-Chair of the HIVEX subcommittee.
Exec lead: Alyssa Lai, HIVE chair
The Public Relations (PR) subcommittee is the public voice of Hamilton HIVE. Its main objective is to create awareness and build the profile of HIVE among young professionals, the general public, and media outlets in Hamilton and the Golden Horseshoe area. The team is also responsible for developing and managing the relationship between HIVE and the various media outlets in the city. Outside of pitching, writing articles, and getting the Hamilton HIVE name out in various media sources, this subcommittee also provides recommendations to the Exec and the Board on communications and marketing improvements within the organization (eg. website, email list, social media etc). In conjunction with the HIVEX conference subcommittee, the PR subcommittee will help drive the marketing and promotions of the HIVEX conference.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: each member will be responsible for attending 2 meetings per month, generating articles and blog posts related to HIVE, HIVEX conference and the young professional scene in Hamilton. Experience in writing, copy editing, web content creation, media relations and marketing would be an asset, though not mandatory. This committee runs from February to December.

Jessica Rose is a writer and editor with a passion for the written word. Since earning a degree in journalism from Carleton University, Jessica has written for publications in Hamilton and across Canada. She is the Director of Programming for gritLIT: Hamilton’s Readers and Writers Festival, a Living Arts blogger for the Hamilton Arts Council, and a columnist for Hamilton Magazine. Jessica is also the social media coordinator at YWCA Hamilton and a writer for the Hamilton Media Guild, a HIVE Member Group. She’s serving as this year’s HIVE PR Chair. Exec lead: Michael Parente, HIVE vice chair
The Sponsorship and Stewardship subcommittee’s main goal is to search out and secure funding and sponsors from various businesses and organizations within the city. It is also responsible to maintain a relationship with said sponsors. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: each member will be responsible for attending 2 meetings per month, developing, implementing, and presenting a sponsorship plan, and the availability to meet with potential sponsors. Prior experience with fundraising, sponsorship and/or event planning is an asset.
Chair: Natalie Castelli
Natalie joins Hamilton HIVE as the 2016 Sponsorship & Stewardship Sub-Committee Chair. In 2008 Natalie received a Diploma in Business Marketing from Mohawk College and attended Brock University afterwards. She graduated in 2011 from the Business Communications program with a degree and a full-time internship position at a local marketing agency, where she worked as a Project Manager for four years specializing in digital and website development.
Natalie is a Hamilton native and a proud supporter of the city she loves. In her spare time you will likely find her cheering on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats or lounging on the beach.
