Recent trends in fashion are moving towards a more inclusive attitude towards plus sized women. However, one particular type of clothing that is lacking in this inclusivity is wedding gowns. Bella Mia Bridal tackles this problem and is one of the only bridal gown boutiques that specializes in plus sized dresses.

The boutique has been immensely successful, with customers coming from Toronto and even as far as London England in search of the perfect dress.

Olivia Fasullo, co-owner of Bella Mia Bridal, is a recent graduate of McMaster University and is already making a big impact in the wedding dress industry. Olivia runs the marketing and market research, social media, photo shoots, and purchasing for Bella Mia Bridal while her mother and business partner, Anna, focuses on being the face of the business, ordering from manufacturers, and performing custom alterations for customers.

The potential for disagreement or even argument is clear when a business is run by family members as well as members with such an age and experience difference. But Olivia assures that she and her mother have a very close relationship. Olivia gives the advice that: “You have to be able to work with people in tough times” and clearly, she and her mother can get through tough times smoothly.

Olivia is already well on her way to be an immensely successful entrepreneur and she gives some solid advice to other young professionals like her. She passionately pushes the sentiment that even if something seems difficult because of a lack of experience – try anyways. She notes the importance of learning from failure. “I’ve changed so much with the business” and because of this she also pushes the importance of being adaptable.

The Fasullo team chose to start their business in Hamilton because they have a huge passion for the city and its business potential. Olivia speaks of Hamilton as a “city on the rise” and that it is severely underestimated. In particular she notes how the community of small businesses is very tightly knit in Hamilton and that they help each other out, send each other customers, and share experiences and skills with those in need. Not only do many small businesses help each other, but Olivia also sees how passionate Hamiltonians are about supporting other local businesses. She also points out the rising art industry and especially theatre and film, which she is a part of herself.

Outside of Bella Mia Bridal, Olivia has participated in the thriving film and theatre scene in Hamilton and won Best in Venue at Fringe for her play Devil in the Details in 2016.

Olivia also loves Pier 4 and Dundurn Castle. She lovingly describes the Christmas season at Dundurn Castle: “If I were taking someone to Hamilton I would definitely take them there.”
